We are blessed to have the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, serving in our parish and school. September 2023 marked the centennial of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) at Saint James Catholic School. On September 17, 1923, under the leadership of Mother Josepha Clarke, the IHM Sisters began teaching 92 students at Saint James Catholic School. The Sisters started the CCD program of religious studies for the students of Saint James and of outlying areas.
In addition to running our parish school, the IHM Sisters also spread the Catholic faith by teaching catechism at other parishes in our area as well as running our Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) here at Saint James.
Since 1957, Bishop O’Connell High School has been blessed with the guidance and presence of the IHM Sisters who work at the school. We are pleased that two of the IHM Sisters who work at Bishop O’Connell Catholic High School reside in our parish convent here at Saint James.
To learn more about the wonderful IHM community that has served our parish, as well as the diocese, with such dedication and love for over 100 years, visit their website at ihmimmaculata.org.
