PARISH NEWS

NURSING MINISTY

The Nursing Ministry is available to check Blood Pressures. Blood Pressure checks will take place in the Sacristy immediately after the Vigil Mass and after the 7:30a.m., 9:00a.m., 10:30a.m. and 12:00 noon Masses on February 13th and February 14th.

ST. JAMES SENIORS

The next meeting of the St. James Seniors will be on Thursday, February 18, 2010 from 4 to 6 pm in Msgr. Heller Auditorium. All seniors (55 and older) of the parish are welcome to join us for Lenten soup and a program on the services provided by Hospice. For further information, call Mary Anne Stallings at 703-237-1768.

INAUGURAL ST. JAMES LENTEN FISH FRY

St. James is planning a parish community Lenten fish fry for some of the Fridays in Lent this year. Volunteers are needed in all phases of the project. Please contact Tim Aubry for more information at traubry at gmail.com.

SOCIAL OUTREACH COMMITTEE

The Social Outreach Committee will meet on Thursday, February 11 at 7:30 pm in the Knecht Gym Conference Room. All interested parishioners are welcome to join us as we plan our Lenten and Spring programs/activities. For information contact Janet Qualters at 703-573-9170.

Refugee Resettlement: St. James parishioners are asked to respond to a request for assistance from the Diocesan Office of Migration and Refugee Services to help with Refugee Resettlement. We will be sharing the collection with St. Ann’s and St. Charles’ parishes. Items which St. James will be collecting include baby items (diapers, strollers, high chairs, bouncy seats, shampoo, formula, car seats, and cribs; cleaning supplies (laundry detergent, laundry baskets, new waste baskets, new mops, new brooms, trash bags); miscellaneous items: lamps, light bulbs, alarm clocks, notebooks, TV converter boxes, calculators and three ring binders.

Gift cards for grocery stores, Target, or Walmart, gas cards and Trac Minutes cards will also be accepted.

The following used items are also needed: cribs; kitchen tables/chairs, dressers, beds and bed frames, vacuum cleaners, sewing machines, TV converter boxes, DVD players, and microwave ovens. All used items must be in good condition and in working order. Furniture must be in good condition without stains or tears in the fabric.

Collection dates will be Jan. 30/31; Feb. 6/7 and Feb. 13/14. Watch the bulletin for location for donations. Contact Janet Qualters at 703-573-9170 for any additional information.

NATURAL FAMILY SPACING

Do you feel something missing in your marital life? Consider getting off those unhealthy hormones and learn the natural way to plan your family with the Couple to Couple League. Its philosophy is in line with Catholic teaching. NURSERY

The St. James Nursery, located in the cafeteria of St. James School, is now open every Sunday. The nursery will accept children beginning at 10:15 in time for parents and older siblings to attend the 10:30 Mass. The nursery adult and youth volunteers will provide care to children ages 1-4. "Nursery Time" will include open play and even a nursery worship service. A small snack ("Teddy Grahams" and water) will also be served. Parents can stop by the nursery or contact Amy Steinbicker at asteinbicker [at] Verizon.net for additional information or to obtain a copy of our nursery guidelines and/or the nursery worship service.


RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

There will be NO religious Education Classes on Tuesday February 9.

ATTENTION PARENTS of 2nd Grade St. James School and Religious Education & Mrs. Rodriguez’ class. A Meeting for First Communion will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Msgr. Heller Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. At least one parent must attend.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY: Youth Ministry follows delay and closing policies for FALLS CHURCH CITY schools for inclement weather. If school is cancelled for the next day (Monday) or weekend activities are cancelled, then St. James youth ministry will not meet. Announcements will be posted via twitter and facebook whenever possible.

Time Out Tuesday: There will be Time Out Tuesday this Tuesday, Feb. 9 from 3:30-5:00 pm. Time Out Tuesday is a time to hang out and play great games!

Girls’ Club: There will be a Girls Club meeting this Wednesday, Feb. 10th from 4-5:30 pm. We’ll be talking about service projects that we can do and the Haitian earthquake. We’ll also celebrate February birthdays!

WorkCampers! Mark your calendar for our Feb. 18th meeting (7-8:30 pm in Heller Hall) Remember your $150 deposit is due evening.

DONATE TO SAVE THE HAITIAN BABIES! In solidarity with our Haitian brothers and sisters, St. James Youth Ministry will be collecting monetary donations through Feb 28th. All money will go to MWTS: HAITI an organization focused on serving the poor with a Catholic school, clinic, and orphanage. The number of children orphaned by the earthquake is astounding. Each week at youth group, we will have a bin where you can drop in your change. For each dollar, St. James will match your donation! Our goal is $500 to help affirm life in it’s most basic form! SAVE THE HAITIAN BABIES one dollar at a time. If you’re interested in donating, please contact Em Anderson.
